For much of its history Christ Church saw itself as a white church. In its earliest days, enslaved Black people were evangelized, but baptism did nothing to emancipate them. Existing parish records include 26 baptisms of known enslaved people, owned by parish members (including two rectors, Abraham Beach and John Croes).
Church membership was more than 500 in 1962 and the church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The church closed its doors in 2014 and was later acquired by the university.
