The museum built a 3,000 sq ft (280 m 2) addition around 2013. It expanded again circa 2021, adding another 20,000 sq ft (1,900 m 2 ) and allowing the museum to consolidate the collection from seven hangars to one.
The Combined Military Services Museum in Maldon, Essex, was opened on 5 July 2004. It was set up by Richard Wooldridge to house a personal collection he had created over many years. A charity was established in 1996 to facilitate the funding of a museum building. A suitable property was found in 2001, a former bonded warehouse in Maldon.
