Dorset was part of Dorset and Somerset SHA. In 2006 regions were again reorganised and Dorset came under NHS South West until that was abolished in 2013. There were two primary care trusts for the area: Bournemouth & Poole Teaching PCT and Dorset PCT. The Winton Health Centre, which had 10,000 patients registered, is now permanently closed. [2]
In October 2006, all primary care trusts (PCTs) outside the London area were restructured. This reduced the number of PCTs from 303 to 152. [1] At the same time, the number of strategic health authorities (SHAs) (which have responsibility for the PCTs) were also decreased (from 28 to 10).
The DT postcode area, also known as the Dorchester postcode area, [2] is a group of eleven postcode districts in South West England, within nine post towns.These cover much of Dorset (including Dorchester, Weymouth, Beaminster, Blandford Forum, Bridport, Lyme Regis, Portland, Sherborne and Sturminster Newton), plus very small parts of Devon and Somerset.
