The W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir is a 1,475-acre (5.97 km 2) artificial lake impounded by a dam located in Wilkes County, North Carolina. [2] It is located on the Yadkin River system, and is operated and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Following the devastating floods of 1916 and 1940, the US Army's Corps of Engineers constructed the W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir on the Yadkin River four miles west of Wilkesboro. Opened in 1962, the dam created a lake with a shoreline of 56 miles.
