The Joe Louis Greenway (formerly called the Inner Circle Greenway) is a planned 27.5-mile (44.3 km) loop that circles the city of Detroit while connecting Dearborn, Hamtramck, and Highland Park. The primary segment is a 7.5-mile (12.1 km) abandoned Conrail railroad corridor.
Dequindre Cut Greenway is a non-motorized trail extending from the Detroit River northward, with the future potential to connect to the Ferndale-Birmingham greenway in Oakland County. The mile (1.6 km) long trail primarily connects the Lafayette Park neighborhood and Eastern Market to the Riverwalk.
The first stretch of greenway, a 1.2–mile section encompassing most of the Dequindre Cut, opened in 2009. [2] Construction began in September 2013 to build the remaining greenway half mile section from Mack Avenue to Gratiot. This segment includes a trail entrance into Eastern Market along the northwest side of the Wilkins Street bridge.
