NCIS: Origins is an American television series, and the sixth installment in the NCIS franchise.It is a prequel to the original series, starting in 1991, and focusing on the early investigative career of the show's original protagonist Leroy Jethro Gibbs centering around his years as a Probationary NIS Agent while still processing the trauma of the murder of his wife and daughter.
The program and its characters are introduced during the eighth season of JAG.The JAG episodes, "Ice Queen" and "Meltdown", served as pilot episodes for the show. The character Special Agent Vivian Blackadder (Robyn Lively) does not appear in the series because producer Donald Bellisario felt that "she was a little soft for this kind of role". [3]
The first season DVD release omits the introductory episodes that aired as part of the eighth season of JAG. The JAG Season 8 DVD set was released in Region 1 on March 17, 2009, in Region 2 on June 21, 2010, and Region 4 on August 5, 2010.
