Orchard Beach State Park is a public recreation area covering 201 acres (81 ha) on the shore of Lake Michigan in Manistee Township, Manistee County, Michigan. Situated on a bluff three miles north of the city of Manistee , the state park offers camping, hiking trails, and scenic views over Lake Michigan.
The area has an area of 6,987 acres (28.28 km 2), with 2,940 acres (1,190 ha) of forest, 1,000 acres (400 ha) of cropland, 550 acres (220 ha) of lakes and ponds, 80 acres (32 ha) of wetlands, 1,141 acres (462 ha) of old fields, 20 acres (8.1 ha) of roads and parking lots, and 1,200 acres (490 ha) of grasslands, of which 200 acres (81 ha) is restored prairie.
A post office called Orchard Farm was established in 1894, and remained in operation until 1953. [2] The community was so named on account of orchards near the original town site. [ 3 ]
