The Ohio FFA runs Camp Muskingum on the south side of the north fork of the lake. Camp Roosevelt Firebird is located on the north side of the lake. In February 2023, director and owner Joe Mendes announced his decision to sell Camp Roosevelt Firebird and close for the 2023 season. The closure of Firebird is due to his plans to retire.

[ 8 ] A Lenape village named Muskingum was established in the area in 1747 and was an important trade center in the early 1750s, until it was devastated by smallpox in the winter of 1752.
