This fossil footprint from northern New Mexico is 96 cm long and given its Late Cretaceous age (about 66 million years old), it very likely belonged to the giant theropod dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex. In 2016 the size of this individual was estimated at 11.4 meters (37.4 ft) and 5.8-6.9 tonnes (6.4-7.6 short tons). [ 2 ]

As of 2017, there is only one find of a possible Tyrannosaurus rex footprint, dating from 2007 and described a year later. [34] A trackway made by mid-sized theropod, possibly a small tyrannosaurid individual, was discovered in South Dakota in 1997, and in 2014 these footprints were named Wakinyantanka styxi .
Wakinyantanka are large, tridactyl, and bipedal pes prints, with the middle (third) toe being the longest (mesaxonic), typical of theropod footprints. The digits of Wakinyantanka are long and slender, and are widely divaricating so that the prints are roughly as wide as they are long, averaging between 55–60 centimetres (22–24 in) long and 60 centimetres (24 in) wide.
