February 25, 2020 at 8:10 am #1917825. BEFORE you varnish, etc. fill any cracks in the wood with epoxy, AND fill the voids around the collar and blade with epoxy. Keeping water out of the handles on Rapala knives is an absolute must or they WILL crack and/or the finish will peel off. After each use, and after washing them, shake the knives to ...

December 6, 2021 at 4:19 pm #2079504. I have been using corded electric knives for walleye since 2000 after going on a guided trip on Lake Oahe when the guide used an electric to fillet the fish. I still use a regular Rapala fillet knife for most bluegill. Lee. Posts: 42. December 6, 2021 at 4:22 pm #2079506.

May 19, 2023 at 4:49 pm #2203719. Random Bump. I got the chance to put both a Rapala R12 HD and the Bubba top cordless knife to walleyes this week. They are both pretty impressive. The R12HD was the clear winner for me with the ceramic blades and long lasting battery. I cleaned 6 16-18” eyes with each knife.

I use the rapala proguide deluxe. my only compliant is the crappy case they want you to stuff the thing in after use. Use a sealed tupperware/plastic case instead. like everything, the better you take care of it the longer it will last. I buy a new set of blades each year ($7.99). still on my first one (this is starting year 4).

Had the Rapala years ago and felt like it lacked power. I actually preferred the cheapo WalMart electric knives to the Rapala. All that said, I don't clean a double limit very often. But for what I catch the Bubba is great. Haven't noticed any heating or other issues.

I’ve used a lot of fillet knives and cut a lot of fish up. Mostly panfish. Over the years I’ve tried a lot of different knives. Rapala, amazon, wustohf, bubba blade, buck knife etc. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m more efficient with 2 different blades. When I cut the fillet off the fish, I tend to use my bubba blade most often.

Fillet knives treally need to be sharpened often to work really well. Needing to sharpen a high quality knife seems like a waste. For now, I took one of my old knives and spent an hour putting a really nice edge on it. It is an old Normark (Rapala) and has been working great.
