She became famous for her works "Dog Woman" (1990's), and "Abortion", a reaction to the referendum in Portugal which made abortion a crime (late 1990s). Her art has been shown in museums such as Tate Modern in London and Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, in Cascais (dedicated solely to her art). [1]
Joana Vasconcelos is one of the most famous Portuguese contemporary artists of the final 80's generation. In 2007, Portugal strengthened its presence on the art scene with the opening of the Berardo Collection Museum on the Cultural Center of Belém, in Lisbon. Fundação Serralves, in Oporto, is another international renowned art institution.
Emanuel Jorge da Silva Santos (born 20 November 1976) [1] is an artist from Madeira, Portugal. In 2017, he became famous for a sculpture of Madeiran native footballer Cristiano Ronaldo which was widely derided by media outlets. The English newspaper The Guardian commented “suddenly, this sculptor was the most famous artist in the world”. [2]
