Pipestone is a community in southwestern Manitoba, Canada. Located at the corner of Highways 2 and 83 , Pipestone is approximately 35 kilometres (22 mi) from either Virden or Melita , approximately 70 kilometres (43 mi) to the United States border and approximately 36 kilometres (22 mi) to the Saskatchewan border.
In the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Pipestone had a population of 1,422 living in 593 of its 677 total private dwellings, a change of -2.5% from its 2016 population of 1,458.
PTH 83 first appeared on the 1953 Manitoba Highway Map. [1] Prior to 1953, PTH 83 was originally numbered as Highway 22. In 1953, the government re-designated it to match U.S. Route 83. As well, the current section of the highway between Russell and Swan River was known as Highway 31. [2]
