State Highway 9 or Trunk Highway 9 (MN 9, TH 9) is a 225.945-mile-long (363.623 km) state highway in west-central and northwest Minnesota, which runs from its intersection with MN 23 in New London and continues west and then north to its northern terminus at its intersection with US Highway 2 (US 2) in Fairfax Township near Crookston.
Silverthorne is situated between the Gore Range to the west and the Continental Divide to the east. The two most visible mountains are Buffalo and Red Mountains. Also surrounding the valley are Ptarmigan, Tenderfoot, and Ten Mile Peaks.
The Hamilton–Dillon Hotel was moved to Breckenridge. The Mint Bar, Old Dillon Inn, Wildwood Bar, the post office and a general store were moved to what later became Silverthorne. Most of the rest of Old Dillon's homes and buildings were demolished. Once cleared, the valley was ready for the reservoir, which was completed in 1963. [3]
