Yellowman's sexually explicit lyrics in popular songs such as "Mad Over Me", boasting, like other reggae singers/deejays, of his sexual prowess, earned Yellowman criticism in the mid-1980s. [11]
Young, Gifted and Yellow is a compilation album by Yellowman, released originally in the United Kingdom on 22 April 2013, and subsequently in other European countries in the following days by VP Records. It features rarities, outtakes and live performances from the period 1970–84, including songs with Fathead and Sister Nancy.
Mister Yellowman is the debut studio album by the Jamaican reggae and dancehall deejay Yellowman. In October 1982 it was released as Mister Yellowman in the United Kingdom by Greensleeves Records [ 1 ] and as Duppy or Gunman in Jamaica by Jah Guidance / VP Records , also in 1982.
"Nobody Move" gave Yellowman his breakthrough in the US market. [3] The album was first released on CD in 1988 by Greensleeves with the same tracklisting as the 1984 release. Greensleeves reissued it in 2004 as part of its 'Reggae Classics' series, with the 12-inch mix of "Rub & Go Down" added as a bonus track. [4]
The album includes five songs from both Yellowman and Josey Wales, pitting them in a "rap battle" against each other.Stephen Cook of AllMusic called the album a highlight of the dancehall era of the late 1970s and early 1980s, and said that "besides some top toasting, the album also features superb backdrops from Lawes and the Roots Radics."
