Williams flexion exercises (WFE) – also called Williams lumbar flexion exercises – are a set of related physical exercises intended to enhance lumbar flexion, avoid lumbar extension, and strengthen the abdominal and gluteal musculature in an effort to manage low back pain non-surgically.
The McKenzie method is a technique primarily used in physical therapy.It was developed in the late 1950s by New Zealand physiotherapist Robin McKenzie. William Gilbert Anderson (September 9, 1860 – July 7, 1947) [1] was an American pioneer of physical education, physician and writer. Anderson was born in St. Joseph, Michigan. He was educated at Amherst College and the University of Wisconsin. He studied at Cleveland Medical College and received his M.D. in 1883. [1]

Active assisted range of motion (or AAROM) – Patient uses the muscles surrounding the joint to perform the exercise but requires some help from the therapist or equipment (such as a strap). Active range of motion (or AROM) – Patient performs the exercise to move the joint without any assistance to the muscles surrounding the joint.
