Firmin & Sons is a British company, founded in 1655, that manufactures and supplies military ceremonial buttons, badges, accoutrements, and uniforms. Thomas Firmin was born in Ipswich , Suffolk in 1632 and was apprenticed to The Girdlers Company the makers of belts both for fine dress and for utility.

Henry Firmin was a parishioner of Samuel Ward, the Puritan incumbent of St. Mary-le-Tower, by whom in 1635 he was accused of erroneous tenets. Thomas Firmin as a young man sent to London and apprenticed to a girdler and mercer who attended the services of John Goodwin at St Stephen Coleman Street; he took down Goodwin's sermons in shorthand.

The son of Giles Firmin, he was born at Ipswich. As a schoolboy he was impressed by the preaching of John Rogers at Dedham, Essex. He matriculated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, [1] in December 1629, his tutor being Thomas Hill. At Cambridge he studied medicine. [2] In 1632 he went with his father to New England.

In the interwar years the third generation took the reins in the person of Firmin Filliers. After World War II, his sons Louis and Carlos Filliers took over. From 1980, the company was managed by the fifth generation, nephews Jan and Bernard Filliers. Since 2018 the management has been in the hands of Bernard Cnudde from Oudenaarde. [1] [2] [3]
