Greenbrier is a city in Faulkner County, Arkansas, United States. It is part of the Central Arkansas region. The population was 5,707 at the 2020 census , [ 3 ] up from 4,706 at the 2010 census.
Hempstead County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,065, [1] down from 22,609 at the 2010 census. [2] The county seat is Hope. [3] Hempstead County is Arkansas's fourth county, formed on December 15, 1818, alongside Clark and Pulaski counties.
The first county seat was in Benjamin Crowley's home. By 1836, when Arkansas became a state, the county seat was located in a settlement called "Paris" (not to be confused with present-day Paris, Arkansas). In 1848 a national highway was made through the area, and the county seat was moved to Gainesville, which had a reputation as rather lawless.
The concrete horseshoe arch reads "Entering Arkansas" on one side and "Entering Missouri" on the other. The Mississippi County, Arkansas Road Improvement District built the arch in 1924 after paving the highway; it erected a similar arch over the highway at the Crittenden County line, but the other arch was removed in the 1950s.
