Navajo Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest, on Navajo land east of Lechee, Arizona.It includes six separate, scenic slot canyon sections on the Navajo Reservation, referred to as Upper Antelope Canyon (or The Crack), Rattle Snake Canyon, Owl Canyon, Mountain Sheep Canyon, Canyon X [4] and Lower Antelope Canyon (or The Corkscrew). The town was originally a stagecoach stop known as Antelope Station, and was later renamed "Stanton" after the businessman and crook Chuck Stanton, who took over the town in the 1870s. Stanton is located approximately twenty miles north of Wickenburg , at the base of Rich Hill, near the ghost towns of Octave and Weaver .
It housed members of the Bow Clan and was the largest of the villages on Antelope Mesa. Recent research has placed Awatovi as the leading village of a macro-cluster that included the villages on Antelope Mesa, on First Mesa, and an outlying cluster of villages at Homol'ovi on the Little Colorado River some 50 miles (80 kilometers) to the south. The Kanab Plateau is about 45-mi long, somewhat arc-shaped, as it surrounds Snake Gulch, a northeast tributary to Kanab Creek. The plateau is aligned southwest to northeast, with the same alignment of the small Antelope Valley, to the west and southwest. The highpoint of the plateau is in the northeast, Cedar Knoll, 5,706 feet (1,739 m)). [3]
