Ophiuchus (/ ˌ ɒ f i ˈ juː k ə s /) is a large constellation straddling the celestial equator. Its name comes from the Ancient Greek ὀφιοῦχος ( ophioûkhos ), meaning "serpent-bearer", and it is commonly represented as a man grasping a snake.

Ophiuchus is not the 13th sign of the zodiac. This is because the signs of the zodiac are only named after constellations; they don't correspond to which constellation the sun is actually in. Planetariums frequently note that it would be a sign if the signs did line up with the constellations, but only an insignificant number of astrologers actually take the stars into account.
