The Southern Jaguars are the college football team representing Southern University. The Jaguars play in NCAA Division I Football Championship as a member of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Jaguars started collegiate football in 1916, and played in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference before joining the SWAC in 1934.
The Southern Jaguars and Lady Jaguars represent Southern University in NCAA intercollegiate athletics. Southern University's 13 athletic teams participate in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) which is a part of the NCAA Division I. Football participates in the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA).

The 2024–25 Southern Jaguars basketball team represents Southern University during the 2024–25 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Jaguars, led by second-year head coach Kevin Johnson, play their home games at the F. G. Clark Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Jaguars played their home games at A. W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In Southern's first game against Florida Memorial, an NAIA team, they won 86-0. This was the most points Southern had scored since 1949, when they defeated Xavier (LA) 87-0.
