Emil R. Buchser High School was a public high school in Santa Clara, California. It graduated its first class in 1960 and changed its name in 1981 to Santa Clara High School, which was around many years at a much older location before Buchser High's campus. Santa Clara High's previous campus became the home of the new Buchser Middle School.
In 1867, the Santa Clara Grammar School was built downtown, [9] and Santa Clara High School was established on the same property in 1872. [ 10 ] [ 11 ] However, in 1905, the high school's board of education oversaw the construction of a new building at a different site, [ 12 ] and the school moved the following year.

In 1981, rival Buchser High School closed, and Santa Clara High School moved to its campus. [5] [6] [a] Because of the influx of former Buchser students into the Santa Clara student body, the school changed its mascot, logo, and yearbook name. [5] [7] Santa Clara High shares a longstanding rivalry with crosstown Wilcox High School.
Around 1982, Mt. View High School closed its Castro Street and the name transferred to the Awalt High School building. The same year, Santa Clara closed the downtown location which became Buchser Middle School, and the Santa Clara High School name transferred to the Buchser High School location. In 1981, Peterson was converted into a Middle School.

It was founded in 1973 by Bill Wilson, [2] who was a Santa Clara councilman and mayor from 1963 to 1971. [3] Wilson assisted in founding a counseling center for children at Buchser Middle School. [ 4 ]
