Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) Varanasi [5] (IIT-BHU) is a public technical university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Founded in 1919 as the Banaras Engineering College, it became the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in 1968.
Varanasi (known earlier as Benares) is a city situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and is approximately 800 kilometers(497 miles) southeast of national capital Delhi. Varanasi is home to an Institute of Eminence, Banaras Hindu University as well as an Institute of National Importance, IIT(BHU) Varanasi.
The university's engineering institute was designated as an Indian Institute of Technology in June 2012, and henceforth is Indian Institute of Technology (BHU). [24] Centralised in 1916 through the Banaras Hindu University Act, Banaras Hindu University is India's first central university. BHU celebrated its centenary year in 2015–2016. [25] [26]

The NRI Quota was once started where Indian Kids living outside India got admission in the IIT's through their SAT scores, the NRI Quota should not pass over 2.5% of the overall seats. The NRI Quota was later stopped due to low quality of students.

IAS is located on the main campus of BHU on the southern outskirts of Varanasi. It has a 65 hectares (160 acres) farm on the main campus. [ 5 ] The institute manages a dairy for research and study purposes with capacity of about 400 animals. [ 6 ]
