Kaiser Permanente broke ground on their Sunset Medical Office on 50 acres (20 ha) in what was then unincorporated Washington County in August 1986. [1] [2] The facility, a 41,000-square-foot (3,800 m 2) two-story brick building designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca Partnership, was built at a cost of $5.2 million and opened in 1987.
In the late 1990s, the developer built 450 homes on lots averaging 4,000 square feet (372 m 2), about twenty percent smaller than a typical lot at the time, with floor plans that averaged 1,700 square feet (158 m 2); [13] 1,400 apartments; retail stores; and offices.
The Somerset Apartments were five interconnected rectangular buildings, each four stories, built in a row running rearward from Jefferson. [2] It had 80 units and was over 45,000 square feet (4,200 m 2). [3] The front façade was symmetrical, faced with limestone on the first story and red brick above, with arched windows on the first floor. [2]
