Hot Rod is the oldest magazine devoted to hot rodding, having been published since January 1948. [2] [3] Robert E. Petersen founded the magazine and his Petersen Publishing Company was the original publisher. The first editor of Hot Rod was Wally Parks, who went on to found the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). [4]
CARtoons magazine is an American publication that focuses on automotive humor and hot rod artwork. Originated by Carl Kohler and drag-racing artist Pete Millar, it was published by Robert E. Particularly during the early 1960s, a genre of "hot rod music" rose to mainstream popularity.
In December 2019, the company announced that 19 of the 22 magazines published by the company would be discontinued that month, including Automobile. [25] In December 2024, Warner Bros. Discovery sold the Motor Trend Group and most of its assets to Hearst Communications. The sale included MotorTrend, Hot Rod, Roadkill and Automobile. [26]

Popular Hot Rodding was a monthly American automotive magazine from the Motor Trend Group, dedicated to high-performance automobiles, hot rods, and muscle cars.Though it focused primarily on vehicles produced from 1955 to the present day it maintained an emphasis on cars produced from the early 1960s through the mid 1970s.
When compared to similar magazines, Car Craft often featured vehicles built on a "real world" budget, with an emphasis on functionality over style. Sister publication Hot Rod overlapped to an extent on some of the same subject matter, however Hot Rod covered more professionally built vehicles. One of the editors-in-chief was John Mcgann.
