Calaveras County (/ ˌ k æ l ə ˈ v ɛr ə s / ⓘ), officially the County of Calaveras, is a county in both the Gold Country and High Sierra regions of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 45,292. [6] The county seat is San Andreas. [7] Angels Camp is the county's only incorporated city.
Telegraph City was an unincorporated town in Calaveras County, California. It lies at an elevation of 653 feet (199 m). First named Grasshopper City when it was started in the early 1860s, it was renamed in the 1870s for its location on the telegraph line between Stockton and Sonora. [2] [3] A post office operated here from 1862 to 1894. [2]
