The original hospital on the site was established as an infirmary for the local workhouse in February 1864. [1] Additions included a medical wing in 1903, a children's wing in 1925 and a 74-bed annexe in 1926. [1] In 1929 it became known as the Queen's Park Institution, a name which evolved to become the Queen's Park Hospital. [1]
Although the foundation stone was laid on 24 May 1858, because of the depressed state of the local cotton industry, the Blackburn Infirmary did not open until 1864. East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is an NHS hospital trust in Lancashire, England.It was established on 1 September 2002, [2] as the result of a locally controversial, cost saving merger of Blackburn Hyndburn & Ribble Valley NHS Trust and Burnley Health Care NHS Trust, first announced in September 1999.
