Point Pleasant station began its operations on October 1, 1898, initially as an unadvertised halt established by the North Eastern Railway. It was later officially opened to the public on 1 January 1902. [1] This area of Wallsend was a hive of activity, and included many famous shipbuilders, such as the Wallsend Slipway and Engineering Company.
