It follows teenage Tanjiro Kamado, who strives to become a Demon Slayer after his family was slaughtered and his younger sister, Nezuko, is turned into a demon. The series' first season premiered in April 2019, having aired on Tokyo MX and other networks, while from the second season onwards it has aired on Fuji TV.
Adapted from the events of the first season of the anime series, along with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train, the game's single player story mode follows Tanjiro Kamado, the series' protagonist, as he joins the Demon Slayer Corps and faces off against various demons in order to turn his sister Nezuko, who has become a demon, back into a human.
Tanjiro and Nezuko also meet Tamayo and Yushiro, two demons free from Muzan's control. They ally to develop a cure for Nezuko, though it will require Tanjiro to supply Tamayo with blood samples from the Twelve Kizuki, the twelve most powerful demons under Muzan's command, split into the six Lower Ranks and the six Upper Ranks.

Tatsuhiko Katayama, their editor, was worried about the one-shot crusade being too dark for the young demographic and asked Gotouge if they could write another type of the main character who would be "brighter". Together, the Demon Slayers behead the siblings, whose heads roll close to each other. Tengen warns a heavily-poisoned Tanjiro to run away just as Gyutaro's body explodes into waves of blood blades that destroy the entire city. However, Nezuko uses her Blood Demon Art to burn the blades and save her brother from the poison.
