Palladium has the appearance of a soft silver-white metal that resembles platinum. It is the least dense and has the lowest melting point of the platinum group metals. It is soft and ductile when annealed and is greatly increased in strength and hardness when cold-worked.
They have similar physical and chemical properties, and tend to occur together in the same mineral deposits. [2] However, they can be further subdivided into the iridium-group platinum-group elements (IPGEs: Os, Ir, Ru) and the palladium-group platinum-group elements (PPGEs: Rh, Pt, Pd) based on their behaviour in geological systems. Nickel, platinum, and palladium are typically silvery-white transition metals, and can also be readily obtained in powdered form. [12] They are hard, have a high luster , and are highly ductile . Group 10 elements are resistant to tarnish ( oxidation ) at STP , are refractory , and have high melting and boiling points.

In chemistry, compounds of palladium(III) feature the noble metal palladium in the unusual +3 oxidation state (in most of its compounds, palladium has the oxidation state II). Compounds of Pd(III) occur in mononuclear and dinuclear forms. Palladium(III) is most often invoked, not observed in mechanistic organometallic chemistry. [1] [2]
