The Ernest Hemingway Cottage, also known as Windemere, was the boyhood summer home of author Ernest Hemingway, on Walloon Lake in Michigan, United States. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1968. [2] [3]
Shortly before Ernest Hemingway was born, the Hemingway family first traveled to northern Michigan in 1898 and settled in Walloon Lake (then known as Tolcatt). The family bought several plots of land around Walloon Lake, and in 1900, they built a cottage they called Windmere on the northern shores of the lake.
