Hyper-V architecture. Hyper-V implements isolation of virtual machines in terms of a partition. A partition is a logical unit of isolation, supported by the hypervisor, in which each guest operating system executes. There must be at least one parent partition in a hypervisor instance, running a supported version of Windows.

Virtualization emulates the hardware environment of its host architecture, allowing multiple OSes to run unmodified and in isolation. At its origins, the software that controlled virtualization was called a "control program", but the terms " hypervisor " or "virtual machine monitor" became preferred over time.

IBM developed the concept of hypervisors (virtual machines in CP-40 and CP-67) and in 1972 provided it for the S/370 as Virtual Machine Facility/370. [2] IBM introduced the Start Interpretive Execution (SIE) instruction (designed specifically for the execution of virtual machines) in 1983 as part of 370-XA architecture on the IBM 3081, as well as VM/XA versions of VM to exploit it.
The App-V 4.x system architecture is composed of the following components: Microsoft Systems Center Virtual Application Management Server , which is used to define applications and assign them to Active Directory Users, or Security Groups containing lists of users, authorized to use the application.
Version 2 introduces changes in the architecture. Microsoft has opted for virtualization through a highly optimized subset of Hyper-V features, in order to run the kernel and distributions (based upon the kernel), promising performance equivalent to WSL 1.
High-level design (HLD) explains the architecture that would be used to develop a system. The architecture diagram provides an overview of an entire system, identifying the main components that would be developed for the product and their interfaces.
