OS: Newly purchased Windows 10, fully updated. I've installed the HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store and rebooted my machine. When I try to open a file with .heic extension, Photos just says it can't open the file.
I have heard that Microsoft has included "HEIC Image Viewer - Support Converter" in some versions of Windows 10. But, I did a clean install of Windows 10 a couple of months ago and found out recently that I had to reinstall "HEIC Image Viewer - Support Converter" to view Apple HEIC files with various kinds of Windows 10 software.

This is what i did to open HEIC files in Windows10. Step 1: Go to Microsoft APP Store and load HEIF Image Extension. Step 2: Go to Microsoft APP Store and load HEVC Video Extension. In the description of HEIF Image Extension it tells you that you must have both extensions to visualize HEIC files in Microsoft Photos.
I installed the Microsoft HEIF Image Extensions and the Video extension too from the Microsoft Store, but when I try to open my HEIC photos it comes up with "Download codecs from Microsoft store"...

I installed the app according to your suggestion. It did not solve the problem. The .heic file extension did have photos as default apps. I then reset the following 4 apps: Heif image extensions. Hevc video extensions. Hevc video extensions from device manufacturer. Photos. After doing all these I am still not able to open the heic files. Very ...
