I have 99 Ford Explorer as I have noted in a previous post that runs cool and it has been suggested to me that my Thermostat may be stuck open. Is that bad for the vehicle. I get great heat quickly and have not noticed any change in gas mileage, but my temperature needle only slightly rises above the "C" in my gauge.

01-28-2006, 02:02 PM. the reason that it's worse in the summer is because the summer air is hotter. an increase in pressure will change the temperature, when you compress something it gets hotter. vaporizing the fuel will give you a more consistent, quicker, and better burn but probably won't do anything for knocking. cody_e. 01-28-2006, 02:05 PM.

11-02-2005, 07:32 PM. If you advance the timing on the car, you increase combustion chamber temperature, and can melt a plug. That knocking and pinging is not good at all for the car, and you may create more headaces than you want. It may hurt the engine internally, resulting in a teardown and repair.
I agree. Any idiot who does 2 oilchanges for 60,000 miles deserves a burned engine. I think their problem is brain-sludge. I personally always do Synthetic oil-changes every 2000 miles, I right-away change sparkplugs with NGK Irridium and wires with Borg-Warner wires and my cars keep running better by age and gas mileage goes up by 5-7mpg.

Are the manufactures so stupid that a $10 under car cover would save 10% on fuel & leave it off. Sadly, a close inspection shows that car makers AREN'T interested in increasing mileage overmuch.
