This is a chronological list of games based on Toho's Godzilla franchise . Since the early 1980s, a variety of video games have been developed and released on various platforms. The majority of these games were exclusively released in Japan , while others were either later released in internationally, or developed in the United States .
The game features two playable monsters, Godzilla and Mothra (who originally appeared in her own movie and then later became a regular monster to fight alongside Godzilla). The player uses both monsters in turn by selecting the desired character on a virtual gameboard, representative of the planet it is on, and moving it like a chess piece .
Godzilla begins the campaign at 50 meters in height, and can reach an almost limitless size. Bosses that Godzilla faces will be leveled at the appropriate height based on Godzilla's current size, although sometimes they are larger on the harder levels. But if Godzilla dies and the level is retried, the boss becomes smaller in size.
