Mar 10, 2016. #1. I got my PPL a month ago and now it's time to start working on getting my instrument rating. I started with the Sportys course for my PPL, but found it to be extremely boring and outdated (everyone dressed in 80's clothes and hair styles). I gave MzeroA.com ground school a try for a month and it got me past my written with a 92.
Sporty’s written test prep is included within its $199.99 Instrument Rating Course, offered online, as an iPhone/iPad app and via DVD. We looked at the iPhone/iPad app and appreciated the flexibility it offers in being able to train anywhere there is an internet connection, and that it can be synced across multiple iOS devices—no Android.
See 14 CFR 61.65 (g): (g) An applicant for a combined private pilot certificate with an instrument rating may satisfy the cross-country flight time requirements of this section by crediting: (1) For an instrument-airplane rating or an instrument-powered-lift rating, up to 45 hours of cross-country flight time performing the duties of pilot in ...
Sam. Jan 2, 2020. #2. You need 50 XC PIC to do the IFR checkride. This is probably why he recommends getting about half of that before you start IFR training, you will get some and CAN get a lot of it during IFR training. Those first two requirements are experience requirements and don't read to much into them.
Display Name. Display name: CFII Scott - The IFR Coach. Nov 4, 2018. #3. Sporty's is great and less expensive that John and Martha. I used Aviation Seminers for PPL and Instrument and then Gleim's online ground school for my FOI, Commercial, AGI, CFI and CFII and did fine.
The 3 practice tests at 85% or better is my standard for me to recommend a student for the written test. In 22 years of instructing I have never had anyone fail a knowledge test. Many didn't get the score they wanted, but they didn't fail. I am sure there will eventually be an exception.
I bought the King course for my private. I misunderstood what it was when I bought it. It is (or was at that time) taylored to pass the written. I was looking for more of a ground school that was a supplement to flying. It turned out to be very good for the written - but was not what I expected. When I did my IFR rating I got the Sportys course.
3G. Jan 27, 2023. #2. Consider it a topoff course; have your written and XC hours complete, along woth 15-20hrs of sim IMC. Be proficient on the radio, be able to maintain basic instrument ACS standards for heading/alritude/airspeed. Pro is you may walk away with the temp certificate in hand.
A 10 day program is far from ideal. Everyone doing a 10 accelerated instrument course will suffer from training fatigue, the learning curve loss is quite noticeable, and the retention is short term. Training fatigue happens with a lot of training (and can with just regular flying), not just instrument.
Ok, I am definitely getting my instrument rating, the citation flight reassured that, and i was wondering what the best DVD course to get is. I have looked at Kings and it looks pretty good. I didn't know if anyone on here has used it or has had something else that worked better. Also if...
