Most of Dixwell Avenue in Highwood is part of Connecticut Route 10. The state highway, southbound, turns west off Dixwell onto Arch Street, then southwest onto Fitch Street into New Haven. It is a 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-story wood-frame structure, with a gabled roof, central chimney, and shingled exterior. Its main facade is three bays wide, with sash windows on either side of the central entrance.
