Tyler R. Lyson (born 1982 or 1983 [1]) is an American paleontologist.He is the discoverer of the dinosaur fossil Dakota, a fossilized mummified hadrosaur.He has done significant research on the evolution of turtles and on the rise of mammals after the extinction of the dinosaurs.

In 1978 paleontologist Bill Clemens alerted fellow paleontologists Jack Horner and Bob Makela to the presence of unidentified dinosaur fossils in Bynum, Montana. Horner visited the town and recognized the remains as belonging to a duck-billed dinosaur. While in town the owner of a local rock shop, Marion Brandvold, showed him some tiny bones.
