One of the first rural homeless shelters in Colorado. The La Puente homeless shelter has been one of the few organizations in southern Colorado to provide emergency shelter services. Since its founding in 1982, it has been an open door where people can step into safety.
Since its humble beginning in the basement of Alamosa's Catholic Church, La Puente has grown into the network of services it is today. In the winter of 1978, Sister Mary Angelo Lobato saw the need to create a shelter for the Alamosa homeless community after two people froze to death, unsheltered from a severe 20 below night near the river.
Adelante supported families are offered individualized assistance in the navigation of resources that will help families set and reach their goals. Services include assistance with housing, case management, referrals, improved access to counseling, and family advocacy.
La Puente's Food Bank Network of the San Luis Valley provides nutritious emergency food to those in the San Luis Valley, through a coalition of 15 food pantries spread across 8,000 square miles. The Food Bank Network offers fresh produce and healthy options for individuals and families.

Crisis Prevention helps those on the verge of homelessness stay within their homes while also assisting shelter guests on their paths out of homelessness. We do this by providing assistance with rent, mortgage, utility, energy, medical and crisis expenses.
