I have been growing Aloe Vera in my backyard for some time now and have not seen them bloom. This year, this spike seems to have snuck up from nowhere. The flowers are still closed, but I will post updated pictures when they open. I'm not sure what color variety this plant is, but it would be fun to find out. My daughter called it "baby corn".
One well documented recipe used by commercial orchid growers from Thailand is to soak 4-5 bananna peels in 1 to 2 litres of cow/pig/human urine for about 3-4 days, after that discard the peels and dilute the both 1:20 to 1:50 depending on the orchids and spray as a foliar feed or to the roots.
I use Dynamite, which is like Osmacote(sp), a tsp for most plants and I then supplement with a fish/seaweed combo.I was hesitant about using Dynamite but a nursery suggested it, tried it with a few plants first and seemed to work, with a big collection of plants it made things easier and even use it on my vandas, tied up in little balls and hung on the wire above the plant.

This is important as CHC needs air to dry out. Intermediate conditions and slightly brighter than Phalaenopsis. My plant gets a little sun (but not full on) in the morning and evening. The plant got two new growths, but I don't know yet how well the roos are growing and whether it will flower again next year. Lars

Plant size like a Doritis (Phal) but much narrower, thick rigid leaves. Looks like a small Ascda on steroids. I don't have the best conditions for growing these types, just very happy when they flower.----- Post Merged at 09:56 PM -----
