Old Petoskey Senior High and Central Elementary School (600 block of Howard) - The old high school building is a two-story brick structure of Classical Revival design, erected in 1913. The Central School addition to the school is an Art Deco building constructed in 1929.
By the 1860s, more European residents moved into Petoskey, and pioneer Hazen Ingalls constructed a dock for shipping and built the first store in what is now downtown Petoskey. In 1874, the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad began service to Petoskey, and the area soon grew immensely. The area already had three hotels by 1875.
The Edward E. When the farmers went to Hillsdale to have their community officially platted, the county clerk, William Montgomery, said he would record it for free in exchange for naming the new community after him. The farmers agreed, and the community received a post office named Montgomery on December 20, 1871. Montgomery incorporated a village in 1906. [4]

It was designated a Michigan State Historic Site in 1977. The building is a T-shaped Neoclassical structure with a hip roof, a raised uncut stone basement. and a stone facade.
