Monroe is the largest city and county seat of Monroe County, Michigan, United States. The population was 20,462 as of the 2020 census . [ 5 ] The city is bordered on the south by Monroe Charter Township , but the two are administered autonomously.
Carleton is in northeastern Monroe County, in the western part of Ash Township. It is 11 miles (18 km) north of Monroe , the county seat , and 6 miles (10 km) southwest of Flat Rock . Interstate 275 , a western bypass of the Detroit area, passes one mile east of the village, with access from Exit 5, Carleton Rockwood Road.
The township is in northeastern Monroe County, with its northern border forming the Wayne County line. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 34.84 square miles (90.24 km 2), of which 34.60 square miles (89.61 km 2) are land and 0.24 square miles (0.62 km 2), or 0.68%, are water.
