1954-The School of Nursing was shifted to Medical College campus. 1960-Diploma programme in Teaching and Administration started with an annual intake of 10 students. 1963- School of Nursing was upgraded to College of Nursing with the starting of Post Basic B.Sc (N) for diploma Nurses which was the first of its kind in South East Asia.
Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) is a state university located in Thrissur, Kerala, India.It was established by the Kerala University of Health Sciences Act 2010, for ensuring proper and systematic instruction, teaching, training, and research and also to have uniformity in the various academic programmes in medical and allied subjects in the State of Kerala.
In India, the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council was established in 1953 under the provisions of Nurses and Midwives Act and works as an autonomous body under the Government of Kerala, Department of Health and Family Welfare. It is a regulatory body for nurses and education in nursing in Kerala and It is monitored by Indian Nursing Council. [1] [2]
The college, founded in 1972, is affiliated with the University of Kerala medical school. It has offered postgraduate programmes in nursing since 1987. The college has five areas of speciality training: mental-health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, obstetrical and gynaecological nursing and community-health nursing.
Being a mandatory exam for admission in medical programs, [4] it is the biggest exam in India in terms of number of applicants. [5] Until 2012, the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT) was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). In 2013, NEET-UG was introduced, conducted by CBSE, replacing AIPMT.

Main courses offered include MBBS, post-graduate training in basic specialties (M.D., MS and diploma courses) and super-specialties (DM and MCh), BDS, BSc Nursing and other paramedical courses. Every year, 175 students get admitted for MBBS course through central government's NEET UG Examination.
The program will involve mandatory course work, a qualifying examination, thesis research under the guidance of a faculty member, an open seminar and a dissertation defense examination, leading to the award of a Ph.D. degree. The quantum of course work will vary depending on the background of the student.
