Roswell (/ ˈ r ɒ z w ɛ l /) is a city in and the county seat of Chaves County, New Mexico, United States. [6] The population was 48,422 at the 2020 census, [3] making it the fifth-most populous city in New Mexico. It is home to the New Mexico Military Institute (NMMI), founded in 1891.
The Chaves County Courthouse, located on the 400 block of Main Street in Roswell, New Mexico, is the center of government of Chaves County.The courthouse was built in 1911 after Roswell's citizens learned that New Mexico would become a state the next year. [2]
