Castle Donington has three primary schools, St Edwards, Foxbridge, and Orchard, the latter serving the majority of the children of the town. Castle Donington College, which welcomed KS4 for the first time in 2017, takes students from ages 11–16 and is the village's only secondary school.

Donnington Castle [2] is a ruined medieval castle, situated in the small village of Donnington, just north of the town of Newbury in the English county of Berkshire. It was founded by Sir Richard Abberbury the Elder in 1386 and was bought by Thomas Chaucer before the castle was taken under royal control during the Tudor period .

Shardlow is a village in Derbyshire, England about 6 miles (9.7 km) southeast of Derby and 11 miles (18 km) southwest of Nottingham.Part of the civil parish of Shardlow and Great Wilne, and the district of South Derbyshire, it is also very close to the border with Leicestershire, defined by the route of the River Trent which passes close to the south.
BMI (British Midland), an airline, was headquartered in Donington Hall. [21] The airline moved its headquarters to Donington Hall in 1982. [22] The subsidiary bmibaby also had its head office in Donington Hall. [23] Prior to its disestablishment, Excalibur Airways had its head office on the grounds of East Midlands Airport in Castle Donington. [24]
The castle was rebuilt in a romanticised gothic style between 1799 and 1816 but was destroyed by fire in 1817. It was subsequently rebuilt in the same style. It opened on 6 December 1869 as Castle Donington, when the Midland Railway opened the Weston, Castle Donington and Trent branch. [1] It was renamed Castle Donington and Shardlow on 13 June 1901 [2] before being closed to passengers on 21 September 1930. [3] It was closed to freight in 1967 and was demolished soon after.
