Farnhurst is the site of the Delaware State Hospital, a psychiatric institution, originally opened in 1889, and often called Farnhurst. [3] The New Castle County Almshouse/Hospital also operated in Farnhurst from 1884 to 1933; these two large institutions were on adjoining plots. [4] A post office opened at Farnhurst on January 15, 1890.
Prior to the establishment of Penn's Philadelphia, New Castle was a center of government.After being transferred to Penn, Delaware's Swedish, Dutch, and English residents became accustomed to the relaxed culture of the Restoration monarchy and grew uncomfortable with the more conservative Quaker influence, so Delaware petitioned for a separate legislature, which was finally granted in 1702.

Porter is an unincorporated community in New Castle County, Delaware, United States. [1] Porter is located at the intersection of Porter Road and Old Porter Road, southwest of Bear , [ 2 ] and is the location of a junction between the Norfolk Southern Railway and the Delmarva Central Railroad .
