John Mackechnie, MBE RSA, (born 19 August 1949) is an artist from Glasgow, Scotland. [1] He began his career as a 15-year-old copy boy in the Glasgow newspaper trade, [ 2 ] [ 3 ] following in his father's footsteps.

A member of Glasgow Art Club, Fergusson exhibited a portrait in the club's exhibition, April 1939. [9] In 1940 Fergusson founded the New Art Club, out of which emerged the New Scottish Group of painters of which he was the first president. [10] In 1943 he published his book on "Modern Scottish Painting". [11]
A close friend of Rennie Mackintosh, Kay was a popular member of the art scene in turn of the century Glasgow. He married Mary Margaret Thompson, and their son Archibald Alexander was born in 1895. In 1911, the census records them as living at 11 Berkeley Terrace.
