This table only addresses the portion signed as a California State Route in these cases. Lengths for each state route were initially measured as they existed during the 1964 state highway renumbering (or during the year the route was established, if after 1964), and do not necessarily reflect the current mileage.
Each highway is assigned a Route (officially State Highway Route [1] [2]) number in the Streets and Highways Code (Sections 300–635). Most of these are numbered in a statewide system, and are known as State Route X (abbreviated SR X). United States Numbered Highways are labeled US X, and Interstate Highways are Interstate X.
State Route 48 is completely unconstructed, stretching 8.5 miles (13.7 km) from the northern junction of SR 14 and SR 138 near Lancaster east to proposed SR 122.. SR 48 was originally planned to run from Ridge Route Road (approximately four miles east of Interstate 5) near Quail Lake in Los Angeles County to SR 122 near the Los Angeles / San Bernardino County Line.
