Stamford station, officially known as the Stewart B. McKinney Transportation Center [5] or the Stamford Transportation Center, is a major railroad station in the city of Stamford, Connecticut, serving passengers traveling on Metro-North Railroad's New Haven Line, and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor.
The New Haven Line is a 72.7 mi (117.0 km) commuter rail line operated by the Metro-North Railroad in the U.S. states of New York and Connecticut.Running from New Haven, Connecticut, to New York City, the New Haven Line joins the Harlem Line in Mount Vernon, New York, and continues south to Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.
The station has one four-car-long high-level side platform with two waiting shelters to the east of the track. [3]: 25 The platform is situated between the grade crossings of Glenbrook Road to the south and Crescent Street to the north. [4] There are no ticket machines. [5]
As of July 2007, a Stamford East Side station is under consideration for the line or just past it on the New Haven Line. [10] In 2011, the three tracks at the terminus – the 10-car main track, a middle track, and what was a short 4-car "Bulk" track – were improved.

The train laid track from North Haven to Meriden in October 2016, and returned for Meriden to Newington in 2017. The Switchtower Museum in South Norwalk describes to visitors how railroad employees would switch the tracks for trains continuing on the Danbury branch line, then switch them back for trains travelling along the New Haven main line.
