Eagle River is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is the county seat of Keweenaw County . [ 3 ] Its population was 65 at the 2020 census , [ 4 ] which makes it by far the least-populated county seat in the state of Michigan. [ 5 ]
The Eagle River Historic District is a historic district located in Eagle River, Michigan, roughly covering Front Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street, 4th Street, 5th Street, and Main Street. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
It carried highway M-26 over the river from 1915 until 1990, when the adjacent Eagle River Timber Bridge replaced it for automobile traffic. The Lake Shore Drive Bridge is listed as a Michigan State Historic Site and is a contributing property of the Eagle River Historic District.
This island was purchased by real estate magnate David V. Johnson in 1994 for $1.3 million, and the entire island was sold back to the state of Michigan for $2.2 million at the end of the year 2000. Eagle Harbor is an unincorporated community and census-designated place located on the north side of the Keweenaw Peninsula within Eagle Harbor Township, located on the tip of Michigan's farthest county, Keweenaw County, in the U.S. State of Michigan. [3] Its population was 69 as of the 2020 census. [4] M-26 passes through this community.
