Patient Online is an NHS England programme to encourage GPs deliver the British government’s promise to give patients in England access to their GP records and to let them book appointments and order prescriptions online. Patients have been able to book online appointments since at least 2009. [1]
EMIS is one of the suppliers approved by the GP Systems of Choice and so funded by the NHS. Through its Patient Access service, EMIS was the first clinical system providers to enable patients to book GP appointments online and order repeat prescriptions. [11] Patient Access also enables patients to access their own records online. [12]
In August 2018 there were problems with the repeat prescription system. More than 10,000 prescriptions that were cancelled on SystmOne software were not cancelled on systems used by community pharmacists. Later in August 20,000 updates made to patients' GP records using SystmOne were not transferred to their Summary Care Record. [13]
